Diogo Costa proved to be the hero as Portugal beat Slovenia on penalties to set up a quarter-final date with France on Friday. After a goalless 90 minutes, Cristiano Ronaldo saw a penalty saved by Jan Oblak in extra time before Costa denied Benjamin Sesko when clean through to take the tie to a shootout. And the Portuguese keeper saved all three of Slovenia's spot-kicks with Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva successfully converting in a 3-0 success.

Didier Deschamps insists France will not "get carried away" by their 1-0 win over Belgium but believes Les Bleus have "made lots of progress" in the tournament. Meanwhile, Adrien Rabiot was "disgusted" with himself for getting a yellow card that rules him out of the quarter-finals but has "confidence" that others can step up in his place.

France have booked their place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 after edging Belgium 1-0 in a scrappy, nervy encounter in Dusseldorf. Les Bleus won the shot count 20-5 but only two of their efforts were on target, while the decisive moment in the 85th minute went down as a Jan Vertonghen own goal, when Randal Kolo Muani's mishit shot deflected off him past a helpless Koen Casteels.

UEFA have announced that England's Jude Bellingham faces a disciplinary investigation over a potential breach of the "basic rules of decent conduct" for a gesture made following his dramatic late leveller in the last 16 clash with Slovakia. Bellingham could face a ban, if he is found guilty by the governing body.

Granit Xhaka will undergo scans on a muscle injury on Monday, ahead of Switzerland's Euro 2024 quarter-final with England on Saturday. Xhaka felt pain in his left adductor in training and during the win over Italy, but feels time is on his side. "Luckily we have very good doctors who gave me something for it. We'll do an MRI on Monday and see what exactly it is," said the Swiss skipper.

Youri Tielemans says there were 'many positives' from Belgium's passage through the Euro 2024 group stages, but he expects a severe test from France in this evening's last 16 clash in Dusseldorf. "[France] know what to do to win. They probably didn't play their best football in the group stage, but they got through to the next round," he said. "This match is going to be a very important one for us."
